Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives last month for a second time and charged with urging an insurrection.

While he was president, his supporters attacked the U.S Capitol

The defense team called the trial unconstitutional because Trump is no longer in office.

An insurrection is an attempt, often a violent one, to take control of the government.
