4 Easy Steps to Learn English Through Songs Effectively

Music plays an important part in our daily life. We listen to music every day and we all know that music brings a lot of benefits to our mental health. Besides, listening to music in English is beneficial for those who are learning English as a second language. In case you don’t know how to learn English through songs, take a look at our post below to make the most out of this learning method!

Step 1: Find music you like

Go online and search for any kind of music you find enjoyable, and then make a playlist of your own. But remember that if you are a beginner, easy and slow music such as Ballad, Pop and Country songs are highly recommended. After creating your favorite playlist, all you need to do is listen to those songs anywhere, anytime and keep yourself inspired!

Some beautiful songs that we suggest:

  • Yesterday (The Beatles):

  • Hello (Lionel Richie)

  • Photography (Ed Sheeran):

  • Safe and Sound (Taylor Swift):

  • True colors (Cyndi Lauper):

Step 2: Write down the lyrics and pay much attention to it

Once you’ve heard a song a few times, write down the lyrics as you listen. Pause the music to give yourself time to catch up, and rewind when needed. This will teach you the written portion and reiterate the words you are hearing. You should also highlight unknown words or phrases and look up them to have a deeper understanding of the song’s meaning. This step is also an important step that helps to improve your vocabulary. Hence, you don’t need to rush, just take it slowly.

Step 3: SING!

Singing is the most important part of using music to improve your English! Singing the words out loud to the songs you listen to is the best way to improve pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and other language elements. And you can have fun at the same time. The more you can sing from memory, the more fluent you will become.

Step 4: Listen to the song over and over again

When you’re able to sing the song comfortably, don’t forget to listen to the song over and over again to correct your pronunciation and revise all the vocabulary that you’ve just learned from it. This step is kind of boring for someone, but it’s worth it. Therefore, don’t skip it!

Above are some steps to help you learn English through songs effectively. Here are a few notes to take away:

– Start listening to music for its own sake. Music not only entertains you but also helps you with learning English effortlessly.

– Listening to music is just one amongst other different English learning methods. Only listening to music doesn’t help you be fluent in English. You need to adopt other methods flexibly to improve your English skills completely.

– When you listen to a song, focus on the lyrics as much as you can.

Anyway, whichever method you are employing, the important thing you have to keep in mind is NEVER GIVE UP ON LEARNING ENGLISH! And don’t forget to share us your learning journey with music by commenting below.
