Tips for learning English numbers 1-20
Learning English numbers and counting will be much easier if you can remember some of these tips:
- For 1 – 13: You need to remember them because sadly, there is no rule. Be patient and start learning them step by step:
1 = one
2 = two
3 = three
4 = four
5 = five
6 = six
7 = seven
8 = eight
9 = nine
10 = ten
11 = eleven
12 = twelve
13 = thirteen
- For number 14 – 20: Add ‘-teen’ after the number that is not number 1
Example: 14 = four + teen = fourteen
16 = six + teen = sixteen
The only exception is 15 [fifteen]
So we have:
14 = fourteen
15 = fifteen
16 = sixteen
17 = seventeen
18 = eighteen
19 = nineteen
Finally, the last number for today is 20 – twenty.
