As a single mom with a lot of busy work and daily life, Phuong Thuy always spends time learning English with her daughter. She believes English can open up new opportunities in her career and her life and help her to be confident when traveling around the world with her daughter. Let’s welcome Thuy.
Hi Thuy, very nice to talk to you. Can you introduce yourself?
Hi! I’m Thuy, 34 years old. I am living and working in Tuyen Quang. I’m a single mom and have a lovely daughter who is 9 year old. I am so happy to talk to eJOY Team today.
What is your typical day like? We guess you’re quite busy
It is true that my day is very busy. During the day, I work at the bank. In the evening, I clean my house, prepare dinner and then study with my daughter. I also have a part-time job and sell nut milk online because I’m very interested in nutrition.
Why did you decide to learn English?
My job does not require English, but I see that English is very important for me and my daughter. You know, learning English helps me grow as a person and gain more confidence. And having good English skills is one of the best ways for me to get a better job and earn more money.
What’s more, English opens up my world to knowledge. Most of the content available on the internet is in English. In the long-term, I want to be a good role-model of perseverance for my daughter and to show her the importance of the English language.
With such a busy schedule, how do you manage your time to learn English?
I usually get up early at 5 am to learn vocabulary, practice listening, speaking English with eJOY English. I set a goal of 6000xp per day on eJOY so I try to accomplish the goal in the morning. If I don’t finish it in the morning, I will continue to study at night before bed.
I just make a little effort every day. Over the last 2 months with 120 hours of studying on eJOY English, I’ve learned more than 300 words/phrases.
After more than 2 months studying with eJOY, what do you think?
Since studying with eJOY, I’ve found it a lot easy to learn English. Before that , I had tried many learning methods such as : flashcards; watch and listen to movies, news; study online courses … but they didn’t work for me. I felt so sad at that time.
eJOY offers many short videos in different English levels, making the learning journey much more relaxing and joyful and helping me to overcome my procrastination. I have just finished the Nature Speaking course that you guys share. And then I started to find other videos of my favorite topics like nutrition, … to practice listening and speaking. Thanks to eXtension, I was able to read English articles on how to make nut milk without effort.
Would you mind sharing your goals for the next 3 or 6 months with us?
With the enthusiastic support of the eJOY team and the learning tools that you guys have developed, I hope that 6 months later, my daughter and I will be able to listen and comprehend English well as well as read more English documents about nutrition. I want to be a professional nutritionist in the future. We will try our best to practice English every day so that our English communication is good enough for our upcoming trip to Singapore. In next 3 months, I’ll study
