My name is Megan
I'm a product development engineer at Molex
Qualifications for a product development engineer
are to have an engineering degree
and previous internship or co-op experience
I went to school for engineering
because I really liked how things worked
I got into Molex through the career fair
that my school was holding
Having an internship previous to working full-time for Molex
allowed me to understand how the real world works,
and after I graduated,
then I got hired on as a product development engineer
I design electronic solutions
for the automotive and industrial industries
Right now I'm working on a connector
that is going to be put into the radio modules and cars
My day-to-day activities they vary
It could be in front of a customer one day,
working with cross-functional groups in different countries
to develop solutions using CAD
I could be working with molding and terminals the next day
to meet our customer needs.
My job is challenging,
but rewarding at the same time
I'm actually proud of the things that I'm working on
We're taking things from concept all the way till validation
And I like seeing the process
I like being proud of having something in a vehicle
that I know is gonna work
My advice that I would give to a new engineer
would be cling to a good mentor at a good position
that you find enjoyable
What set Molex apart
and why I chose to continue to work with Molex
is because of the time that they take to train individuals
They don't just give you a piece of paper
and say "Make this happen"
